Effective from 6th April 2010, The Information Commissions Office (ICO) has been able to order organisations to pay up to £500,000 as a penalty for serious breaches of the Data Protection Act. This order has been approved by the Secretary of State for Justice and by Parliament.
The ICO enforces and oversees the Data Protection Act, the Freedom of Information Act, the Environmental Information Regulations, and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.
Effective from 6th March 2010, The Financial Services Authority (FSA) published its new ’Enforcement Financial Penalties’ policy, which could see fines treble in size.

Company executives will be held individually liable both criminally and civilly, for any copyright infringement that occurs within the organisation
