IT Disposals

As part of our Hardware Asset Management service we are often commissioned to provide ICT Disposal services and we also offer ICT Disposals as a standalone service.

It is not uncommon in many companies, large or small, to find small store rooms and cupboards stacked high with ICT equipment that is no longer required by the business. Many companies do not have in place processes or partners to help dispose of the equipment through the proper channels. In many cases there is no “proper” place in which to store all this redundant equipment and so cupboards and drawers and corners of offices become full of disused kit. Space is generally limited in most organisations and when it becomes filled with ICT equipment it is not just an inconvenience but also a potential health and safety issue.

Another common problem is that because it is difficult to dispose of equipment people tend to hold on to it, often as a spare. This equipment is often under support contracts and if not cancelled they will still be paid for even though the equipment is not used.

The unofficial process of “cascading” of equipment as new people join the organisation further complicates matters.  A manager may purchase a new laptop for himself and pass his older model down the line without notifying the ICT department. The older machine may well pass the company’s refresh policies and become less valuable for remarketing during the disposal process.

• Service Credits for the provision of ICT consultancy and technical engineering
